The Tides
TIDVATTEN explores the shifting emotional landscape between the body, the sea and light.
Inspired by Nordic coastal life, the series moves through themes of presence, longing, cyclical change and quiet femininity.
Shells, sails, tidal water and sea-worn textures recur throughout the works as symbols of memory, rhythm and emotional movement.
About
About Juli Simlin
Based in Sweden, my work is deeply influenced by Nordic coastal landscapes, sea light and the emotional language of atmosphere.
Inspired by painters such as John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and Joaquín Sorolla, I work primarily in large-scale oil paintings using confident brushwork, selective detail and luminous color relationships to create paintings that feel lived rather than observed.
I build a romanticized coastal world shaped by salt air, stillness, femininity and emotional rhythm.
Artist Statement
My paintings explore the emotional tides between the human body and the sea.
Through oil painting, I create atmospheric Nordic coastal worlds where light, wind and water become emotional language rather than background. Recurring symbols such as shells, sails, horizons and tidal water function as reflections of longing, presence and cyclical inner life.
I seek a balance between atmosphere and reduction — where light, wind and silence carry as much meaning as the figure itself.
